Understanding User Access, User Profiles, and User Permissions in MedQdoc #
In MedQdoc, user access is built on a layered access model. This model ensures that each user has the correct base access level while allowing flexible, customer-specific control over what actions users can perform and which documents they can access.
What Is User Access in MedQdoc? #
User access is the overall concept that defines how users interact with MedQdoc. It combines user profiles and user permissions to ensure security, compliance, and efficient daily work.
User access in MedQdoc is managed on two distinct levels:
- User profiles – define the user’s base access level
- User permissions – define what actions the user can perform and which content they can access
These two levels work together but are configured separately.
User Profiles – Base Access Level #
User profiles define the user’s base access in MedQdoc. Every user must be assigned exactly one user profile. The profile determines the general level of system access but does not control detailed document permissions.
Available User Profiles #
MedQdoc provides three predefined user profiles:
- Full User – full base access to system functionality
- Standard User – standard base access for daily operational work
- Reader – read-only base access to approved content
User profiles are typically assigned when a user is created and can be updated later by an administrator.
User profiles define what level of the system a user can access, not what specific actions they can perform on individual documents.
User Permissions – Actions and Content Access #
User permissions define what actions a user is allowed to perform and which documents or folders they can access. Permissions are managed through group access and are fully configurable by each customer.
User permissions control actions such as:
- Create documents
- Review documents
- Approve documents
- Archive documents
Permissions also determine which documents and folders a user can read or interact with, based on the groups they belong to.
User permissions are not assigned directly to individual users. They are managed through group access, allowing consistent and scalable permission management.
Key Difference Between User Profiles and User Permissions #
Understanding the difference between user profiles and user permissions is essential for correct system configuration.
- User profiles define the user’s base access level in MedQdoc
- User permissions define what actions the user can perform and which documents or folders they can access
User profiles are standard and predefined, while user permissions are customer-specific and configurable.
How User Access Works Together #
In practice, user access in MedQdoc works as follows:
- A user is assigned a user profile that defines their base access level.
- The user is added to one or more permission groups.
- Group permissions determine which documents, folders, and actions the user can access.
This layered model ensures compliance, flexibility, and clear separation of responsibilities.
